SIGHTSEEING
TURTLE LAKE
Turtle Lake (in Georgian “Kus Tba”) is a small reservoir located in the region of Vake-Saburtalo of the Tbilisi city on the height of almost 700m above the sea level. It is cozily situated on the left cliff of the Mount Mtatsminda, towering over the Vake Park and the Ethnographic Museum. Once there were many turtles, this is how the lake got its name. They are still there, but not as many as before.
When it is warm around, the Turtle Lake turns into a favorite place for walking, rest and sports training not only for locals but also guests of Tbilisi. The lake gets waters of the mountain river Varaziskhevi and surrounded by a thick forest. There are nice pebbled beaches with deckchairs, cozy cafes, playgrounds for children, sports grounds and a jogging track around the lake. You can ride on catamaran, swim and sunbathe, and then take a walk along the cliffs where you get the fascinating view of the city.
Since recent times, the Turtle Lake has become attractive for fans of hiking. When it is warm, especially at weekends, visitors can enjoy concerts and performances of Georgian DJ’s around the lake.
